Setting Standards and Living Up to Them
There are many criteria which contribute to a quality roofing application, however the criteria involved can be summarized in 3 categories, namely design, materials and inspection. The criteria are intended as benchmark and provide the owner and the design professional with the best product that can be built within the specifications.
Design of the roof is the first criteria.
An MRGNB roof application has a life expectancy and longevity of 25 years, our design criteria is to provide the best product we can provide to the owners and provide the best specification manual and ways of applying roofs to the designers and the architect and engineers so they can provide the owner with a product that will give them longevity.
MRGNB provides Roof Specifiers and Architects with a copy of our "Roof
Specification Manual", which is one of the most up to date roofing manuals in
Canada. This manual contains the standards that need to be met to qualify the
roof for the Master Roofers Guarantee Program.
MRGNB can provide a Guarantee Certificate when you use one of our members.
Because we set tough standards for membership, we know that the roof will be
constructed properly by trained and skilled workers.
Materials used on the roof is the second criteria.
MRGNB members have a selected list of MRGNB approved generic materials. These
materials have to meet or surpass our rigid technical specifications reviewed by
our technical committee.
The MRGNB examines new materials and the availability of materials in the market today, a market which changes on a regular basis (as petroleum changes and as manufacturing technology changes). The MRGNB looks for the best product that will fit in to that program, one that will give customers the best product for the best cost efficiency. There is a life cycle cost that has to be examined as well. How much it costs to build a roof and how long it is going to last are the questions that need to be asked. Customers can spend $1000 per square meter and have the roof last 100 years, or spend $10 per square meter and have it last 10 years, to be re-roofed every 10 years. So, one must consider the lifecycle costs of a roof and that will take into account the R value, the life expectancy, the types of material and what the end use is.
Inspection of the roof is the third criteria.
Our Guarantee program requires independent inspection when the roof is
installed and third party inspection when the roof is installed and a
re-inspection at the end of two years with no cost to the owner. We recommend
that the owner arrange two annual inspections, or implement a service contract
with an MRGNB member.
The MRGNB Guarantee program protects your roofing investment with a five-year
guarantee. We not only stand behind our work, we stand "under" it - with
confidence and pride!
